THESE BEAUTIFUL DOLLS ARE FILLED WITH THE HISTORY AND TRADITION OF MEXICO’S INDIGENOUS CULTURE.

Smiling along with her sisters in markets and on street vendors’ stands around Mexico is the “Maria” rug doll. She is readily identified by her wide face, hair braided with multicolored ribbons, and a vaguely indigenous dress.

Created by Otomi artisans, the famous doll has become an international Mexican icon. The production of dolls has turned into a source of income for a large percentage of the Otomi women. 

Mexican artisans make Maria by hand and the process to create one single doll can take up to five hours. Each piece is handmade with beautiful embroidered blanket fabrics; this makes each doll totally unique.
